If Madison’s blues scene has a house band for its collective spirit, it might just be the Madtown Mannish Boys, one of our Local Blues Heros Bands. On summer evenings at places like the East Side Club, their sound cuts through the air—harmonica wailing, guitar lines snapping tight, and rhythms that feel pulled straight from Chicago’s West Side. There’s nothing polished-for-show about it. It’s raw, direct, and built for the moment. Every set feels less like a recital and more like a revival—part jam session, part celebration. They move easily between classic blues standards, early R&B, and vintage soul, creating a sound that’s as much about feeling as it is about form.

Their performances are known for:

  • Harmonica-driven leads that carry both grit and melody.
  • Dance-ready grooves that keep the crowd moving.
  • Soulful, unfiltered vocals that echo classic blues storytelling.

About the Venue

Gazebo Musikk is a beloved free community concert series that has run for many years in Stoughton’s Rotary Park, organized by local volunteers and community members (historically with ties to Stoughton’s Norwegian-heritage church community — the name “Musikk” is a nod to the city’s strong Norwegian roots). It programs a wide range of local and regional acts — roots, blues, folk, Americana, jazz, and world — making it a genuine community gathering point rather than a ticketed commercial venue. Bring a lawn chair or blanket; food and refreshments are typically available on site.

The same gazebo/park hosts the Catfish River Music Festival (annual, July, organized by the Stoughton Opera House Friends Association) which has featured confirmed blues acts.
